DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DESCRIPTIONS
Self-Test A

Hold in the trip odometer reset button while turning the ignition key to run will start a self-test, with a readout on the odometer. It will also activate the instrument panels, one at a time. The test will run for approximately 60 seconds, then automatically shut down. If the test senses a fault, the odometer will show the P-code number for the corresponding (DTC) Diagnostic Trouble Code.

This self-test procedure will only test the (MIC) Mechanical Instrument Cluster and the communication with the (BCM) Body Control Module. You will not get engine or transmission fault codes. It does not test the entire vehicle.

Self-Test b

        1. Cycle the ignition key On - Off - On - Off - On within 5 seconds.

        2. The odometer will show the P-code for the corresponding Diagnostic Trouble Code number.

        3. If no DTC's are present, the cluster will display either:
        A. "P1684" and "done"
        B. Or, only "done"

P1684 does not indicate a problem; it's only a status, which indicates that the PCM memory has been cleared
within the last 50 ignition cycles. "Done" indicates that no DTC's are present and the procedure is complete.

P0700 indicates that there are faults on the TCM, which must be read.

P-code suffixes
(M) Check Engine Lamp (MIL) will illuminate during engine operation if this Diagnostic Trouble Code was recorded.
(G) Generator Lamp Illuminated within 5 seconds.
